History and Funding

People’s Family Health Services, Inc. was organized and

incorporated in 1972 as a 501 3c non profit to provide family planning services in North Platte and later, to west central Nebraska.  In 1978, the WIC program was added to our agency.  The agency is currently under the direction of Rachel Stahr, who serves as Executive Director.  Patty Thomlison is the WIC Program Coordinator and Ann Smith is the Family Planning Program Coordinator.  We maintain 24 positions through Family Planning and WIC combined.  There are four administrative positions that work both programs, fourteen WIC positions and six Family Planning positions.

WIC is funded through grants from Health and Human Services as a part of USDA.  It is a free service to families who qualify based on federal  income guidelines. Services are provided to 15 counties and at eight offsite clinics in addition to the North Platte clinic.

Approximately 35% of  the Family Planning operating budget is supplied by grant funds administered through the state.  The remainder of the operating expenses are generated through client and community donations and payment for services rendered. Family Planning provides services to 18 counties with permanent clinic sites in North Platte, McCook and Ogallala.
